Subaru Loves Pets - Roanoke Valley SPCA - Julie R

Ruby was originally adopted from our shelter, the Roanoke Valley SPCA several years ago. She recently found herself in the care of a local emergency veterinarian after a really serious incident. She unfortunately drank some type of cleaner which caused pretty bad burns in her mouth and down her throat. Ruby spent several days in emergency treatment with a fever and other complications, plus she didn't want to eat with those painful burns in her mouth. We honestly didn’t know if she would survive for several days. We were so thankful that the staff at the emergency hospital hand fed Ruby to try to get her to eat, and one of their staff even fell in love with her and agreed to foster Ruby during her recovery period. Ruby thrived in foster care and she was finally healed enough to be available for adoption just in time for our Subaru Loves Pets Adoption Event held on October 23rd from 10:00AM - 4:00PM at Southern Team Subaru in Roanoke, Virginia. During the event, dogs and cats from our shelter were available for adoption and each adopted pet went home with a free collar and custom ID tag and dogs also received a free leash in addition to a variety of information and toys provided by Subaru. The adoption event was part of our Subaru Loves Pets month-long initiative to bring awareness to shelter pets and to champion special needs animals including seniors, amputees, visually and hearing-impaired pets and those pets with physical challenges. With everything Ruby had been through, we certainly considered her an underdog. Although she wasn’t adopted at the event, she certainly received some great exposure because of it, and Ruby went to her new home just a few days later! We can't thank our Subaru partners enough for their support in helping us find homes for deserving pets like Ruby.
