Subaru Updates Legacy Sedan and Outback SUV for 2025 Model Year
Subaru recently updated its Legacy sedan and Outback SUV models and is gearing up to release them in 2025. While the vehicles will remain mechanically similar to the previous models, Subaru has made a few changes to make them more appealing to customers.
The Legacy and Outback are two of Subaru’s most popular models, known for their all-wheel-drive capability, spacious interiors, and reliability. The 2025 models build on this reputation with a few upgrades and changes that make them even more appealing.
One of the most significant changes for the 2025 models is the addition of the standard EyeSight driver-assistance technology suite. This includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-centering steering. These features help drivers stay safe on the road and avoid potential accidents.
The Limited trim levels of both the Legacy and Outback have also gained a few popular features as standard equipment for the 2025 models. These include a power moonroof, heated steering wheel, driver attention monitor, and alarger 11.6-inch Starlink infotainment touchscreen.
While the Legacy and Outback may look similar to their predecessors, there have been a few updates to the front and rear fascias to give them a more modern look. The interior of both vehicles is spacious and comfortable, with room for up to five passengers. The infotainment system is easy to use and intuitive, with a large touchscreen display and physical knobs for volume and tuning.
The Legacy and Outback models are equipped with a standard 2.5-liter flat-four engine that can generate 182 horsepower and 176 pounds-feet of torque. Additionally, an optional turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four engine can produce 260 hp and 277 pounds-feet of torque. Both engines are paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels.
The fuel efficiency of the 2025 models has not been released yet, but the 2024 Legacys with the base engine get an EPA-rated 27/35/30 mpg city/highway/combined. The turbocharged Legacy Sport and Touring XT models are rated at 23/31/26. The 2024 Outback gets an EPA-rated 26/32/28 mpg with the 2.5-liter engine and 22/29/25 mpg with the turbo. The Wilderness trim level, which features a taller ride height and all-terrain tires, manages just 21/26/23 mpg.
The base prices of both the Legacy and the Outback remain the same as last year; however, the destination charges are slightly higher. The Legacy’s destination charges have increased by $25, while the Outback’s have gone up by $50.
The starting price for the Legacy will be $26,040 (plus destination fee) for the base model, while the Premium model will start at $28,340 (plus destination fee). The Limited trim will cost $35,150 (plus destination fee), the Sport model will be priced at $35,640 (plus destination fee), and the Touring XT will have a starting price of $39,340 (plus destination fee).
The Outback’s base model will start at $30,290 (plus destination fee), while the Premium model will be priced at $32,590 (plus destination fee). The Onyx Edition will cost $37,500 (plus destination fee), the Limited model will be priced at $39,250 (plus destination fee), and the Onyx Edition XT will have a starting price of $40,755 (plus destination fee). The Touring model will be priced at $41,740 (plus destination fee), the Wilderness model will cost $41,355 (plus destination fee), and the Limited XT will have a starting price of $41,590 (plus destination fee). The top-of-the-line Touring XT model will start at $44,190 (plus destination fee).
