Will Subaru Revive The Baja Hybrid Pickup?
The Subaru Baja has been gone for some time now, and other companies have been reviving some of their retired vehicles. The question leads to whether Subaru will bring back their once beloved Baja. Now that the company is going towards a new era of electric vehicles, is there hope for an all-new Subaru Baja Hybrid Pickup?
New EV Models
The Subaru Baja was produced between 2002 and 2006. These cars are designed as pickups and are available with petrol engines of 2.5L, producing a power of 165 to 210 horsepower. The Subaru Baja has a fuel consumption of 10 liters per 100 km. The car’s overall dimensions are 4910x1781x1590 mm, and it weighs 1582 kg.
It is the perfect time to introduce a compact truck with hybrid technology to the American market. The Subaru Baja can be based on the company’s new all-electric vehicle and hybrid model plan. According to Osaki, Subaru is planning to increase its EV lineup to eight models, a significant increase from the previously anticipated four new EV models. The company plans to add four more EVs by the end of 2028, which shows a significant ramp-up in Subaru’s previous electrification plan.
“As a matter of course, we have been collaborating with Toyota on BEVs for a long time. So, we will make use of that know-how in producing BEVs. We have yet to consider whether the two companies will jointly manufacture BEVs in the U.S.” – Subaru Corporation CEO Atsushi Osaki
Subaru’s CEO, Osaki, has stated that the demand for electric vehicles (EVs) has been growing at a faster rate than what Subaru expected, particularly in the US. He added that American Subaru customers, known for their environmental awareness, have shown more interest in EVs in the past year. The CEO also mentioned that a considerable number of Subaru drivers also own Teslas. However, it remains unknown whether the upcoming EV models from Subaru will include a fully electric version or a hybrid technology-based revived Subaru Baja compact pickup. As Subaru doesn’t disclose any information regarding future model developments, any speculation regarding a new pickup, including the Baja, is baseless.
Subaru 2026 Baja
The 2006 Baja comes in two trims- Sport and Turbo, both featuring a 2.5-liter flat-4 engine. The Sport produces 165 horsepower, while the Turbo delivers a more exhilarating ride with 210 horsepower. Standard features for both trims include fog lights, a sunroof, power windows and locks, ABS brakes, dual front airbags (without side airbags), roof rails, and cargo bed tie-downs. The Turbo offers additional options, such as power seats and leather upholstery. There is also the choice to have a hardcover for the open bed, roof lights, and an extended tailgate to increase the cargo capacity. Other standard features include keyless access and an anti-theft system.

If Subaru decided to feature the Baja in its new lineup toward the EVs they’ll be added by the end of 2028, it should be well received by consumers. We have yet to see another pickup from Subaru in a while, and having a revival of one that customers already love in an EV model will spick popularity.
